Ecological Farmers Forum (EFF) Nepal, an initiative of the local farmers, was established in 2004 in Sauraha, Chitwan with aim to promote and educate farmers, about organic farming in Chitwan Valley. This Forum is registered as not for profit making and a non-governmental organization in the District Administration Office Chitwan Redg. No 27/063/64. The Forum envisions the human wellbeing with a healthy environment by safeguarding the biological diversity.

In the context of overuse of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in our farming system, it has hazardous effects not only to human health but also to our environment and wildlife. The fertility of the land is constantly degrading by excessive use of chemicals. Not only animals, birds and humans are affected but also micro-organisms that are helpful for agriculture are being wiped out by chemicals.

EFF endeavors to raise awareness about importance of bio farming in rural communities by organizing various educational programs. It discourages the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and instead encourages the use of bio fertilizers and bio pesticides, as well as teach other alternatives. The EFF also conducts various training programs for farmers about practical use of different bio fertilizer and bio pesticides with support and coordination of other organizations.

OBJECTIVES

• to encourage farmers to adopt organic farming system.
• to promote and manage the market for organic products (vegetables, fruits etc.).
• to manage, in local level, the availability of bio fertilizers and pesticides, seeds etc. that are required for farmers and make them self-reliant.
• to involve local farmers in protection and conservation of birds, wild animals and jungle.
